Cameron Highlanders
of Ottawa

At an exciting time in our history, the millennium, the turn of the century. In the year 2000, Jeff Poissant of Evolving Media was commissioned to design a few bilingual recruitment posters and a brochure to promote an on-site museum within the Cameron Highlanders headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario.

This project included photographing various soldiers on location. Due to time constraints, Evolving Media commissioned Fred Cattrol Photo Associates in Ottawa to take the original photos. Jeff edited the images, removed the backgrounds for use within his design.

About the
Cameron Highlanders
of Ottawa

The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa traces their roots back to 1856.  Members of the Regiment or the antecedent regiments have served their country in all armed conflicts from the Northwest Rebellion to war in Afghanistan.

Embracing the same motto as the city of Ottawa, "ADVANCE" the Camerons were the only Ottawa regiment to participate in the D-Day landings. Of note is the secondary title “Duke of Edinburgh’s Own."

Their Regimental Family consists of the Regiment, the Association, and the Foundation.  To learn more about the Cameron's visit their website at http://camerons.ca

We worked closely with Dr. Kenneth Reynolds and the senior staff.

What was involved

Photographs were taken by Fred Cattroll, and the digital negatives were given to Jeff Poissant after the photo shoot. Dr. Kenneth Reynolds provided historical images from the museums' archives. Images were then selected, backgrounds removed by Jeff, other photos were edited and repaired during the design process. Seeing that Google didn't exist yet, a map was created to provide directions on how to walk or drive to the Cameron Highlanders headquarters. Bilingual text for the brochure was given and added to the design.

These were the results. What do you think?

Of special note, to illustrate the proficiency of our photo editing techniques. The uniforms the soldiers were wearing were so worn out; the fabric had to be recreated and blended in to look natural. We were also told by the Major that the black bands on the riffles were duck tape, and so each Riffle had to be edited and verified to ensure they still looked real.
